Transmitter / Receiver Modes
The Acquire Advanced Editor can communicate with the players via UDP or TCP.
UDP is a 'broadcast' technology where the remote devices do not need to be listed in the configuration and can be useful when the players cannot be given a fixed IP address.
However, using the TCP connection is recommended (and can be used in situations where the Editor and Player PCs are in separate areas of a network.
Acquire or it's partners will configure the software appropriately for you.
It can operate in one of these two modes:
Transmitter
- Playlists for groups are sent via TCP or UDP every N seconds. (Playlists are changed in the Event Mode screen by clicking or by scheduled event)
- Statuses are received via TCP or UPD from the players and shown in the Status screen.
Receiver (UDP only)
-
Statuses are received via UDP from the players and shown in the Status screen.
When using UDP there can be only one Transmitter on the network.
(All TCP Acquire Advanced Editors are Transmitters)
This works by:
- When run, the Acquire Advanced Editor is initially a Receiver.
-
A Receiver becomes Transmitter if:
- Playlists are changed in the Event Mode screen by clicking or by scheduled event.
- No Transmitter message received from another Acquire Advanced Editor for N seconds. I.e. there is no other Acquire Advanced Editor Transmitter on the network
-
A Transmitter become a Receiver if:
- A Transmitter message is received from another Acquire Advanced Editor. I.e. the other Acquire Advanced Editor is the Transmitter.
