Maximum Content size

Note: that due to technical size contraints in Microsoft's DirectX graphical system.

There is a maximum limit of how large a single instance of the StudioDX player can be (the total 'output' size).

According to DirectX documentation, this is 16,384 pixels by 16,384 pixels' (although in our testing this figure can sometimes be a little more or less than this, so please try reducing the output size if you are close to this limit and are expeirencing issues).

In normal use, 16,384 pixels is more than enough for most installations - many LED walls typically have lower pixel denisty and rarely use multiple 8K LED controllers - and often 'stripe' the content outuput (which can be achieved using the 'Slice' feature in the Acquire Setup program to maintain the output within the 16,384 x 16,384 maximum texture size).

If you are experiencing playback issues, check if the total size of your ouputs exceeds or is close to the resolution 16,384px x 16,384px across all of your displays.

If you require a larger display output that the texture size allow, you have two options:

If your hardware can support it, the StudioDX Pro player can be configured with multiple output windows on a single player device - This reduces any latency but does require a higher specification player for drive and memory bandwidth, as well as video decoding via CPU and GPU.

Alternatively, adding additional player hardware and licenses and grouping them together with the Synch option allows for an almost unlimited canvas size

  • (max 254 players synched together, each with their own 16,384 x 16,384px canvas).
