# What to do if a player keeps restarting?
## (Note: the player WILL normally continue playing for playlist changes and new deployments of content BUT will restart in the event a mapping or similar 'setup' configuration change occurs - this is normal behaviour)
The Player will catch most events and close cleanly, rather than hanging up - usually announcing the issue to the Editor so you and your team are aware of the issue occurring.
Most of these issues stem from **'DirectX'** events and these in turn can often be caused by crashes in the hardware drivers - usually in the **Graphics card drivers**, but sometimes from other devices in the player hardware such as **Disk I/O, System Bus or Audio**.
The Watchdog application monitors the player and will automatically track memory usage, resource leaks, and program closures and will restart the player automatically. By **default**, the Watchdog application will restart the player up to five times in thirty minutes, and if this is exceeded, it will show a message before rebooting the computer to try and clear any memory issues. Upon reboot, there is typically a sixty second delay before the player is started, which gives you time to enter the keyword you chose during installation to unlock the player.
(default is **ESC - WATCHDOG**) and return to the Windows Desktop .
One thing you may want to check is, based upon your installation, the player may require more resources than the default values - so for example large 8K renders or multiple videos streams or plugins may require more memory than the default settings. Click **'Settings'** on the Watchdog control panel, then choose **'crash monitor'**, **Resources** and adjust the **Maximum Memory** or other settings as required.
