StudiopDX User Guide Introduction

This is a guide for the Acquire Advanced Editor application only. It is assumed that the players have been been set up, a project has been created, and that the user is familiar with the Acquire Editor.

  • The Acquire Advanced Editor is used to manage your LED display project, and control a network of Advanced players.
  • An Acquire Advanced Player consists of a single windows device, uniquely identified in the configuration files. For mission critical installations, you may choose to have two computers mirroring the same content playout. This allows for a main and backup PC, with the backup PC becoming the Synch Master in case of the Main Player failing. These PCs run the project to display a playlist of media.
  • The project contains the playlists, and is deployed to all the LED Display PCs using any of the Acquire deployment methods.
  • Players belong to groups. Each group has a playlists. The project on a PC plays the playlist for the group that the player belongs to.
  • The project contains:

    • A Groups Definition file in its ...\Always Send\ folder. This is an xml file that lists groups of players, and describes the players' PC display outputs.
    • Playlists of media to by played by the display plugin. A playlist consists of rows. Each row of which has columns of players PCs. Each player has a list of outputs and what media to play in that output. Rows have a duration and can be configured to play within at a certain date range.
  • The Acquire Advanced Editor:

    • Displays the status of the players.
    • Creates playlists for groups.
    • Allows you to switch groups' playlists.
    • Deploys the project to your players.
  • The Acquire Advanced Editor can be configured (in the groups.xml) to communicate with the players in one of two ways:

    • UDP - When using UDP there can be only one Acquire Advanced Editor on the network controlling player playlists (transceiver) other Acquire Advanced Editors show status only (receiver).
    • TCP -When using TCP all Acquire Advanced Editors can control player playlists.
  • The deployment of content to the players is related but separate to the triggering of playlist changes and player status shown in the Acquire Advanced Editor. Thus, content can be deployed using any of the deployment methods, and an Acquire Advanced Editor can be installed locally to the players or at the same location as the Editor.
  • See separate document regarding transceiver/receiver modes.
