Information Displays Terminology

The Terminology

If you want to use information from Wayfinder in Beacon, you will need to login to Wayfinder via Acquire Accounts first.

  • Information Display — a configured content item based on a Layout.
  • Layout — the reusable visual structure selected by the display.
  • Token — a placeholder found in the layout. The display supplies either a static value or a supported data path.
  • Destination — a Wayfinder destination assigned to a direction slot in the layout.
  • Duration — the display's default playback time in seconds.
  • Assignment — a relationship that makes an Information Display available directly to one or more Devices.
  • Playlist item — an Information Display placed in an ordered Playlist.

 What is an Information Display?

An Information Display combines a layout with its content values, destination mappings and playback duration. It can be assigned directly to devices or added to playlists.

A layout can support many displays. This makes it possible to reuse one design with different text, media, token values or destinations.

The Information Displays list

Open Information Displays from the navigation

The table shows:

  • Name — the display name. This column can be sorted.
  • Project — shown when viewing records across all projects.
  • Layout — the selected layout. This column can be sorted.
  • Duration — playback duration in seconds.
  • Devices — devices to which the display is directly assigned.
  • Operations — Assign, Edit and Delete.

 Actions

  • New Information Display — opens the creation form.
  • Assign — opens a device tree. Saving replaces this display's direct device assignments with the selected devices.
  • Edit — changes the display, layout, mappings, duration or assignments.
  • Delete — asks for confirmation, then deletes an unassigned display.

Deletion is blocked while the Information Display is assigned directly to a Device. Clear those assignments first. A display can also be used as a Playlist item; review playlist use before removing content that operators still expect to play.
