Create a new Layout

How to Create a new Layout

  1. Open Layouts.
  2. Select New Layout

The visual editor is intended for a desktop browser.

Set up the layout

  • Name — required name used in layout and information-display lists.
  • Description — optional explanation of the layout's purpose.
  • Project — required when no project is selected in the header.
  • Width / Height — canvas dimensions in pixels. The default is 1920 × 1080.
  • Presets — quickly applies Landscape, Portrait, Square or Wayfinder dimensions.
  • Grid — optionally show a grid, snap elements to it and set its pixel size.
  • Content — import a layout XML file or export the current design to XML.

Build the design

Use the toolbar to add Text, Text box, Image, Video and Direction elements. Use Select to position or resize content and Hand to pan the canvas.

The toolbar also provides undo, redo, duplicate, delete, group, ungroup, zoom, fit and 1:1 view controls. Select the Help button for keyboard shortcuts.

 Use the Layers panel to:

  • Reorder elements by dragging them.
  • Rename, show or hide, and lock or unlock elements and groups.
  • Expand a layer and edit its type-specific settings.
  • See warnings when image or video media cannot load.

Direction elements use consecutive destination indexes. Resolve any gap warning before saving if every destination slot should be populated later.

Save the layout

Select Create Layout. Beacon validates the name, project and layout structure, then confirms creation and returns to the Layouts list. Select Cancel to leave without saving.

Beacon warns before discarding unsaved changes.

What happens after creation?

Beacon stores the layout and records its uploaded-file references, writes an activity-log entry, invalidates affected player caches and broadcasts a feed_templates update. The layout becomes available when creating an Information Display.
